Sherlock Turtle
I asked kyle, tell me anything to draw. He said, "turtle with a top hat, and a kiwi sidekick. No monacles." So I thought I'd do a Sherlock homes, and watson interpretation of it
A semi-decent sketch
Into a less than decent painting. I was trying to play with dual lightsources. It kinda worked... (not really)

First film! Some production goodies
So I actually still can't post the whole 3rd year film, incase there is festival stuff going on, and now I'm drawing for a co-op placement out in Halifax :D! That also wants the work unseen for a while. So here's what's left that I can give you.
A few pieces of production from the film you might enjoy!
This is a video of my individual scenes from the Night Shift. Pretty much it's just all Boss, lol
This was my first crack at the colour script. Initially I wanted this film to be monochromatic blue, up until the sky painting, but I lost that argument. The top 5 more reddy colour panels are the first try at changing the base to inject more colour, as well as experiments on how we'd be dealing with spot lights, and shadows.
The fear was always to never put too much colour in the base, or else the final Aurora wouldn't feel as surprising to Boss.
This is the second pass. Mostly the arctic changes from blue to purple, and the addition of Shen's watercolours for the opening shot. As well the base is now set in yellows and purples to make it feel more dull, then bright reds. (I got the idea from standing in line at a Tim Horton's. There is a lot of colour, just very bland)
This is the final pass at the colour script. The arctic went back to blue and the first sky Bori is in is more purpley, so that it feels closer and more connected to Boss/the Base. This was the initial guide for how to paint the base. Using the colour script panels, people could pull swatches from this layout to paint all the other scenes. As well, a texture was added to the background to tie it in better with the water colour textured skies of the outdoors.
This is another layout I did, that I just like. It's so clean. As you can guess, I don't do layouts, and I don't do cleanups, but I had to learn for this film, this drawing is a testament to that for me!
Come September I'll post the whole film. There are some amazing shots, and cinematography in it. It's really worth seeing to just look at Dan Tsvyatskov's seamless 3D work for the Base, and Zambonies.
I'll be trying to update more, as I throw out as many 4th year concepts as I can in the coming months.

Happy Birthday to Me!!!
Tis my birthday, officially. The clock just struck. So here's a blog post before I sleep as an older person.
Some snarky aged geisha's for the same project.
I had to go to the Auto Show a week ago, these are some things I doodled:1) People posing next to cars to take photos...

2) People posing with cars acting like they own them.
3) People poised around cars acting like they know things about cars.Have fun today, and drink coconut water, if you really want to be my friend :D!

Stojko
Around the school there are several students taking part in a 24 hour film marathon. I didn't have the time, cause of group film, but I got a similar opportunity through one of my elective assignments (P.S. The best elective class yet). So I made a Leica, cut to music.
Hopefully Stojko will give me the rights to finish this biography of his child hood.

A flashback blog post
I'm cleaning up my desktop today, in order to organize for the rest of the semester. I came across a blog post I had sketched during the christmas break. At the time I was pretty ill, and I couldn't understand, if I was always on top of my work, why my body couldn't keep up.
I realized much later, I needed the break. And having my butt handed to me by life, was the only way I'd stop for a while.
Ironically for Christmas I came home to a new queen size bed. The universe just really knew I wanted some sleep.

The easiest way to explain how I got there, was I had a lot of goals this year, and they were all within reach. Instead of settling, I spread myself thin and reached for them all. Ironically that's an easy way to lose your skin.

At the time, I didn't care, I had everything. I was just bigger and stronger than all the pain it took to get there.

I realized later, taking on all the responsibility was an easy way to get killed. And left other people unable to help themselves, when I was down for the count.
Doing something about your problems is always a good attitude to have. But sometimes leaving things alone is the only way to deal with it.

I'm very happy to be back to my old self. At least in personality. I may still be a little tired and itchy, but I know myself better, and can still be as kind and helpful as ever.
But only when people ask for it... :D
But only when people ask for it... :DP.S. I'm back on track to meet all those goals I wanted before, but now I get some sleep, and am personally much happier. Being a nice guy means I have great friends, that'll help me whenever I need it.
!!Thanks everybody who's been there for me these past couple months!!

Boss
Why did I stop blogging for a solid month. Well, that's complicated. Mostly I've been horribly ill, but also I've been working on this one character for group film ad nauseam. I've been doing design sketches, random doodles, expression tests. I even have a rough sculpt on my desk.
I don't think anyone will mind the world getting a sneak peek. Besides he might look completely different by next week. :@
I have to give mad respect to Sean Parry (Check him out). He took my rough designs, and cleaned them up. (Something that would of taken me hours. I'm sure). So now we have a gorgeous model sheet. And you all get something to see.
Enjoy his bossiness. I'm gonna start whipping up animation tests soon. In fact the 3 blue drawings in the bottom are a few drawings from a test I did in under an hour. Hopefully the steam engine, that is my art, keeps on rolling.
